On June 13, 2017, Kathryn Helllerstein led a workshop, with Professors Xu Xin and Song Lihong, respectively Director and Deputy Director, at the Glazer Institute for Jewish and Israel Studies at Nanjing University. Professor David Stern (Harvard University and emeritus Penn) participated, along with colleagues from Columbia University, Nanjing University, Sichuan International Studies University, and Henan University. The workshop was on "China and Ashkenazic European Jewry: Transnational Encounters" and prepared for a conference by the same name that is planned in China for June 2018. Professor Hellerstein received a grant from Penn CREF (China Research and Engagement Fund) to support this three year project.
