A talk by Willi Goetschel, University of Toronto, Professor of German and Philosophy
Heine anticipates some of the crucial insights of the Critical Theory of the Frankfurt School. This talk will address some of the central aspects of Heine's approach to rethink history, agency, the problem of temporality, and the particular role of deferred action, the simultaneity of the non-simultaneous and the return of the repressed play in his project of re-imagining the terms of emancipation.
Sponsored by the Germanic Languages & Literatures department, and co-sponsored with the Jewish Studies Program.
