Rabbi David Flatto, Ph.D., is Professor of Law and Jewish Studies at Penn State University and Associate Professor of Law and Jewish Philosophy at The Hebrew University of Jerusalem. Dr. Flatto holds degrees from Yeshiva University, Columbia University School of Law, and Harvard University. He was ordained by Yeshiva University. Dr. Flatto taught at NYU Law School and Yeshiva University, and was a Visiting Researcher at Yale Law School. His works have appeared in Yale Journal of Law & Humanities, Tradition and Commentary. 

Dr. Flatto’s scholarship focuses on Rabbinic Literature and Thought, Second Temple Literature and Thought, Jewish and Comparative Jurisprudence, Maimonides, Legal History and Constitutional Law and Theory.

This program has been approved for 1.0 substantive law credits for Pennsylvania lawyers. CLE credits may be available in other jurisdictions as well, attendees seeking CLE credit should bring separate payment in the amount of $40.00 ($20.00 public interest/non- profit attorneys) cash or check made payable to The Trustees of the University of Pennsylvania.

In 1987 Joseph Gruss, a banker who founded Gruss and Company, established the Caroline  Zelaznik Gruss and Joseph S. Gruss Chair in Talmudic Civil Law at the University of Pennsylvania Law School. One of the responsibilities of the Gruss Chair is to present lectures to the public on Talmudic Civil Law.
