Screening of UPHEAVAL
A documentary about Menachem Begin
Avi Shilon, Rachel Greenberg
The documentary is about the sixth prime minister of Israel, Menachem Begin. Described by American film critic Michael Medved as "an essential and masterful primer for anyone who seeks a better understanding of the Middle East," UPHEAVAL tells the story of modern-day Israel through the lens of Menachem Begin's life. The timing couldn't be more perfect. This year is Israel's 75th birthday and the film not only covers the history of the state but also elevates thinking and conversation on so many global challenges we face around leadership, war and peace, security, social justice, immigration, anti-semitism, and much more.
Avi Shilon (a historian, professor, journalist and author on books on Begin and Ben-gurion) and a primary talking head in the film will be participating in the Q&A via Zoom along with Rachel Greenberg, another Penn Alum (and International Relations major) who produced the film. This semester, he is a visiting professor at Columbia University and spent the two previous years as a visiting professor at NYU.
Sponsored by the Jewish Cultural Studies floor in the Rodin College House, Cinema and Media Studies Program, and the Jewish Studies Program. Organized by Law School student, Michael Greenstein.
