Contemporary Israeli theater is a vibrant world of intense creative activity. Using readings from selected scenes and screening clips from outstanding theatrical performances, this talk aims to expose the audience to the theatrical abundance existing in Israel and to the richness of the Israeli cultural scene.

Dr. Roy Horovitz is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Comparative Literature at Bar-Ilan University, where he specializes in the intersection of theater, literature, and Jewish culture. His courses explore the dynamic landscape of Israeli theater, including the central themes of the Holocaust, political issues, and the modern reinterpretation of the Bible on stage. Dr. Horovitz also examines the complex relationship between Jewish tradition and the world of theater, offering in-depth analysis of contemporary Israeli plays.

He earned his Ph.D. from Bar-Ilan University in 2020 and is recognized as an influential figure in the Israeli cultural scene. In addition to his academic role, Dr. Horovitz collaborates with prominent theater companies, including the Habimah National Theatre and the Beer Sheva Theatre, and is well-known throughout Israel for his expertise in modern Israeli theater and his contributions to the ongoing conversation about the role of theater in Jewish life and memory.
